i notice a few guys here ride sportsters...i like the two tone nightster orange black.....always had big motors or fast bikes....now im changing my ways and just want to ride a raw naked bike for nightly rides.....some articles i read say 50 hp stock and some say high 70s .... question is whats the scoop do these sportys move out pretty good...im trying change my ways but still want some performance....whats the scoop

I ride an 06 1200 Custom. It has high flow high compression heads and performance cams. That's stock. Puts out about 70hp. Love my bike. Rode it to Montana and Yellowstone Park 2 years ago, and to Milwaukee this year.

For a Harley they move pretty damn good. With a little work you can make them rock. Best part is nothing sounds like a Sportster.

Sportster's rip through the twisties alot better then BT's. Just a nice quick(with a little work) ride.

Sportys rock as a hotrod,I had an 86" stroker Iron many moons ago that never got beat in a stop light drag on the street,great fun!
I used to love catching those ricerocket boys on KZ1000's & other big ricers of the era off guard at the light.
The Sporty looked pretty stock but had the heart of a drag bike with 12:1 compression and a huge list of other goodies to make it fly.
I'd holeshot the fuggers then short shift a couple gears as they played catch up then at the next light they'd be ready and I'd drop the hammer and spank'em again.

You could get some serious road rash especially at night.
Stock fuel injected 1200 Sportsters have about 65 horsepower.
With the right aftermarket pipes, air filter and backplate, fuel injection
module and proper tuning the horsepower would be around 75 and 73 torque.

Rubber mounted 883's 55 hp 04 and up
Rubber mounted 1200's 65 hp 04 and up
read an article that claimed the fuelies 06 and up get 70 of course thats
a 1200

thanks for input guys i remember riding fxr or dressers with 70 75 hp ..lot more weight a thought they felt strong... to bad they dont install the buell motor 1200 in there bike...or the sporty they sell over seas close to 80 hp..think its the xr1200....id be all arms and legs on the sucker..think id like that
