They used to have a descent name and exchange warranty but not anymore, just try and exchange a defective now and you will have to complain to top managers and maybe? get results
Post your nightmare stories here

I never had problems witha craftsman exchange program for tools.
You jimi should see this one coming...I will never buy tools from Home Depot again. I did buy a set of 1/4" sockets and a ratchet. Ratchet broke after a few uses. Took it back to HD and was told i must have been using a cheater bar on it cause the handle is too small to put enough torque on it to snap off the ratchet end. Had manager look at it, was told i had to send back to an adress he was gonna give me for inspection of tool. They needed an inspection of tool cause it didnt have any marks on handle. I left and bought a ratchet at sears. Later i called home depot customer service #, told them their tool program sucks. after getting my info they sent me a replacement ratchet. took one week to exchange a tool. Thats too much hassle. |

Yes, LD I do see this coming and I am very hesitant to buy a tool with today standards they have, the tools are OK but when a cheap co. uses a inferior O ring and it poops out, our toll is useless to us. I can't wait to see all the ( my motorcycle jack will not hold )
i have hydraulic tools I have bought over 30 years ago and they are doing just fine, I bought and paid for quality and I have and use the tool. For an instance, I bought a 2 ton floor jack made by Hein Werner, I paid around $200 for it and now you can buy a stronger jack for less than $60 ? This is the 2007 version of the jack I bought Hein Werner Jacks - Heavy Duty Service . USA Made Hein Werner Floor Jack. Model HW93642 And my home depot problem was the employee that did not enter my order in computer? They tell me its not in their system? and I have my receipt in hand? warning to all, cheap is not always better deal when you save a few dollars and gain lots of aggravation

Well for hand tools I still always will pick craftsman, I've never had a problem exchanging tools from them. Just recently I exchanged a screwdriver it was a, they didn't sell the same screwdriver anymore so the dude told me to just pick another one off the shelf. I know they rebuild thier ratchets though, that sucks, cause when I buy a ratchet it's new, I don't want a used one when it breaks, I want the FKN thing to be new. Fortunately I haven't broke one of theirs yet

Sears has always done me right when it comes to tool replacements....
I snapped a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar one time using a cheeter pipe, they took it back with out any questions, they had to order the replacement, took a couple days. i do not waste good money on cheep tools....... ya get what ya pay for.

When I was young I bought all SK stuff. I was a mechanic years back and started replacing my SK with Snap-On. Since I don't wrench for a living anymore I buy Craftsmen.
I am not so worried about the warranty as I am about the price. I bought a pair of good wire crimper pliers that cost $50.00 from snap on, a few weeks later saw the same pliers, differant name in Sears for $19.95. I also bought a three piece tool box set from them about three years ago when I inheritted some tools that cost me $399.00 and it stands over six foot tall. The same setup in Snap-On would have set me back about $1500.00 atleast. So Craftsman brand is working good for me but if I was a pro I would go Snap-On only. Mutt |
