Any Pinstripers Out There?

I just re-painted my tins and want to pinstripe the outline of the red design. This is something I've never done, but want to try.

My question is how to make the joints seamless? As you can see the angles are too sharp to use a continuous piece of tape. Any suggestions?

Tinman,

I like your paint and I admire the fact that you want to do it yourself but unless your one of those rare people that have excellent hand control and eye / hand coordination I would say to let a pro do it.

Pin striping takes years of practice and few people can actually master it but if you want to try, get the right brush, some One Coat paint and some scrap to practice on. A freindly pin striper once let me try it while he was striping a new car and I was surprised to see I could make a decent short line. When I tried a long line the width was inconsistant, you could see my starts and stops and I could get a nice end design but couldn't duplicate it on the other side.

Although i have not tryed it i have seen painters tape off what they want to pinstrip and spray it. one painter (granted it was on TV) said he would never pin strip with a brush again.

i am not a painter but it looks like your paint job would be a good lay out to tape off and spray

I was thinking along these lines for now (since I don't want anymore downtime) but still want to try the "brush" technique. I also thought about using tape, but don't no how to make it look seamless. Practice, practice, practice.

Thanks for the info on the brushes but not into buying an airbrush. I had my compressor ripped off a couple of years ago along with a shitload of tools. Since I'm not looking to do this very often I'm keeping expenses down. So far I've only bought 3 cans of Dupli-Color spray paint, a little sandpaper and rubbing and polishing compound. Less than $25 for a paint job isn't too bad.

Here are a few more pics.

Well, due to time constraints I went with the 1/8th" tape. It got easier real fast.

Now I just need to shoot the clear and I'm back in the wind.
