DECHROMING NACELLE
Hi;
anyone here ever take the chrome off? My front nacelle ( factory dec66) has seen its better day and is flaking and peeling. Am trying to get the chrome off with steel wool and wet sanding but its hit or miss! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as I will be primering and painting the nacelle as the pot metal from the 60's is CRAP! had to do same with the shovelheads a few yrs back and after sending for chrome still looked pitted, opted for primering them and painting them high gloss black. |

removing chrome can be difficult. chrome is very hard and usually the part that is chromed is very soft. not familiar with nacelle but if its thick enough i would sand it with a good strong grit like 80 and remove all pitting and then move to finer till its smooth with minimal scratches left.

If the bike your talking about is the one in the avatar picture it looks like you have a lot of chrome on the bike. A black headlight nacelle might stand out like a sore thumb. Best way to remove chrome is to take it to someone who does chroming, they do it with an electric charge in solution. But new headlight nacelles are still around why not get a new one and keeps everything on the shiney side?
