Nice day for a ride
Yesterday was sunny, with temps in the mid 60's...... a perfect day to do some riding. I wheeled the scoot out of the garage, grabbed my gear, and off I went. I toured around on secondary roads, just enjoying the ride. After a nice little 150 mile putt, I headed back home, as the wife was just getting off of work.
Sure enough, she wanted to go for a putt as well....... works for me! We headed back out, again riding the secondary roads so we didn't need to worry about traffic. After 60 miles or so, we stopped at a local restaurant for a coffee. It was getting late, and temps were starting to drop, so we decided to take the highway home. Traffic was very light on the highway. We were riding in a 35mph zone, when I saw a pickup truck coming across 4 lanes, directly at us. I grabbed a handful of brakes and everything went into slow motion. Kathie lurched forward into my back, as the front of the bike dove under hard braking. I could hear the squeal as the rear tire locked up, allowing the bike to slowly drift to one side. The rear of the truck was right in front of us as I let up on the brakes and the bike got traction and swerved in the other direction. Witnesses said that we missed the truck by mere inches. We got stopped on the side of the road, and I looked back to see the pickup at a gas station. I stormed towards the truck as the driver came towards me. "Man, I'm sorry" he said. "I didn't see you." "What?!?" I yelled. "I was the only fucking vehicle within 200 yards, with all my lights on, and you didn't see me?!" I proceeded into a rant laced with profanities, then I turned and stormed away. Meanwhile, a young man that had seen it had stopped to make sure we were alright, and to offer his account, if the police were involved. A fine young man. It turns out that the pickup driver is a car salesman that was driving a new vehicle across the street to get gas for the new owner. The street is 4 lanes wide. As I have dealt with the dealership in the past, I'll be going in there Monday and lodging a complaint against the salesman. At least Kathie and I escaped unhurt, other than some possible shit in our undergarments. The bottom line...... always ride like they're out to get you, cuz' they are!

Man, glad you're ok. I would have beat the shit out of him (but then I would have been the one the cops would have hauled off). You're lucky you didn't high side when you let up on the rear brake. I kind of admire your restraint. Again, glad you and your wife are OK.
