Processess? how many should be running?

How many processes should be running at any given time. use have around 45ish now I have between 60-67 at any given time. I am not sure if they can be turned off or what? but could that many at once be causing the PC to be slow?

firefox runs using 83K mem usage
and others use like 100 mem usage

not sure if any of this has anything to do with it..

Can you post a screenshot of your running processes? That's the easiest way to get an idea of what you can disable.

You could also install, run, and post your log results from StartupList.

Prebs, some where around 30 is the windows standard.....
sounds like you have a bunch of stuff running in the background......

take a look in your start up folder.........


even connected here i am runnin 37 processes.

First, make a backup copy of your registry. Go to Start -> Run, type in regedit, hit Enter.

In the registry editor, make sure My Computer is selected. Then go to File -> Export. Save it where you can find it and make sure the Export range is set to All.

After that's done:

You'll have to check your Startup folder in your Start Menu (you can right-click on items to delete them).

In StartupList, find Registry 'Run' keys and expand it. Then expand System Run. Select the first object I listed above under Registry 'Run' keys, right-click, and choose Regedit jump. That will open the registry editor again and automatically select that key.

Since we backed up the registry, you can safely delete the keys I listed. The rest are right below that first one in the regedit window.

Once that's done, you should open you Services window: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Try to locate any services that match those registry keys. Double-click on the service name to open its properties window. You can safely set the Startup type to Manual.

Hmmmmmm.... So I checked mine: 51 processes running... is that bad??
