Good point. I have admin rights so I can install software. Anyone can open questionable emails.
This may just be the IT guys passing the buck, cause they did not have adequate protection.

If the stupid people clicked on the link without admin rights, the virus would not be able to be installed. It was a .scr file hidden inside a link to a supposed .pdf file.
we have mandatory online security training every quarter. This was covered in the past. I guess they need a "How to hover your mouse over a link to see where it is really going to take you, Dummy!" course...

Here I thought I was sneaky doing that. Not long ago, I got an email supposedly from UPS, but when I hovered the link, it wasn't UPS. Saved me a problem with my work computer. I guess I'm not so smart after all.

Also, many AV programs do not automatically look for or remove trojans, the only program that would catch a trojan that's embedded in an email is one that was part of email client software. Because I occasionally use my home email addy for work, my home email addy was in numerous workplace address books. I run an "active" trojan program, plus an email scanner. The email scanner caught it, the trojan program didn't. But it has caught trojans that tried to install themselves on my PC. YMMV Last edited by 05Glide; 09-16-2010 at 06:12 AM. |
