Lost oil pressure

It was cold out side and I thought it was just an echo off the trees! The rear cilinder sounded like it was under water, and when I got her home I checked everything out that it might be, eccept the "oil guage". there was no pressure! NEED INFO PLEASE! '79 SHOVEL

first off might check oil level...duh
next check for circulation of oil in tank.
how old is your oil filter? may be clogged
oil getting to guage? unscrew guage and bump engine to see if oil spits out.
check all the basics before tearing engine apart.

The filter is stock "in tank", oil level is good, every thing checks. It must be internal.

Pull the oil pump and look for sheered woodrufe keys. These are the the keys that lock the gears to the shaft so they wont spin unless the shaft is moving.

How did the rear cylinder sound?! Sorry, it's just not very descriptive ...!
Also, I assume the oil presure guage you mention is on the rear cyl. exhaust rocker shaft? If so, then Funderburg is prolly right, you should check your oil lines first to see that they haven't got clogged with debris (or had some emulsion sudge ice up inside if it's sub-zero where you are) before you go dismantling the oil pump.

hope this helps

The guage is in the block, just forward of the pump...........motorboat,motorboat,motorboat....LO L
SUB ZERO? NOT IN FLORIDA!...We have run 70w in the summer, if we can find it, and 50w in winter, if its not too hot!

Ah, OK I didn't see the Florida bit ...! Cold to you is like a balmy summer's day to me, I guess!!

In any case, since your oil guage is on the block, it sounds like you have no oil pressure at the pump, which is rather more serious! Revert to the instructions about taking the pump off to check the woodruff keys; be methodical and try to keep things as clean as you can. You can take off the pump without taking the motor out of the frame by taking it apart where it is, but when re-assembling make sure nothing is binding and it all spins smoothly by turning the engine over slowly by hand (in gear, turn the rear wheel) before you torque down the fasteners that mount the pump body to the motor case. Also, remember to prime the pump again before starting up the motor - should be easy on a '79 Shovel, just take the plug out and let gravity do the rest ...

Oh, and just in case you needed me to tell you:
DON'T RUN THE MOTOR ANY MORE UNTIL YOU'VE DISCOVERED AND RECTIFIED THIS PROBLEM!
Run with no oil pressure, your motor will very quickly render itself in kit form!!!!!!!
