They're prolly right - I actually did it once (the fence was right up against/into the hedge along the edge of the field, so I didn't really take it in - i'd had a coupla beers ...!). The current is pulsed, so to start with nothing happened, and then the next pulse came along, just as I'd established a nice steady flow ...

The shock I got didn't injure me, but DAMN did it hurt - I ended up sat on my arse about six feet further back into the field, with my aching knob still out, in my hand, and piss all down the legs of my jeans!!

Yup, it's not dangerous, but it's no fun either!
