Bullet Resistant Fiberglass boards for walls
Wanted to post some pics of a test I did over the weekend. We are building a new datacenter and to meet some of our compliance requirements we are installing bullet resistant fiberglass boards inside the walls of some high security areas.
After we were finished we had some left over board so I took it to the gun range to put it through my own tests. From 5 feet away I fired .22 LR, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and 12 Guage 00 buck. It took everything with no problem. With the single rounds the back of the board wasn't even buldged out and nothing passed through. I also tested multiple round strikes to the same point on the board with the .45 ACP. From 5 feet away I shot the same exact point each time and it still took 10 rounds before there was a passthrough. Pretty damn tough stuff.

Its about the same weight as a piece of drywall, maybe a little heavier. Atleast at this thickness. They make boards as thin as a 1/4" and as thick as thick as 1 1/4" that will stop 5 rounds of 7.62mm rounds.

I'll keep it in mind for my standoff. I expected it to be heavier. Is it a restricted item? In an urban area, it wouldn't be bad for a deer blind. I am sure its $$.

Its actually not too bad on price. It is not restricted.
A guy could make lots and lots of money selling this and installing it for drug dealers in the ghetto.

done the same the thing to some board we used in a pharmacie. shot the rounds you did but i allso used a 44 mag in which i loaded my self that might have been a little hot. it is some tuff stuff.

I have another piece that I'm going to test out this weekend. Going to use a very hot Elmer Keith .44 mag load and 12 Guage Slug. I'll probably try out 7.62x39 and 5.56mm as well but I don't expect the board to stop the rifle rounds. At this thickness its not rated to stop rifle rounds.
