I laid it down...
Ya ever hear that? "Just before I hit that car I laid it down." I don't buy it unless you're a stunt man. Who else practices it? Most times, stuff happens so fast, a person doesn't time to think about laying it down. I think they go into a skid and dump it. It's just easier to say...

I started into the curve doing 85. Guy wouldn't get out of the left lane. Was the kinda curve with the sign of semi tipping. I pulled around the guy, right into the curve. If there wasn't a break down lane , I would be dead.
Cement median and three lanes of oncoming traffic. I pulled as hard as I could, though a better rider, might have made it. I think I may have bounced off the wall as sliding, not sure, blew the forks out. Right hip bothers me from that. Left shoulder from getting rear ended on my bike, the rest just fucking hurts in general. I don't know the right answer. But I find it a interesting question. |

I'm sure your last accident didn't help any with the ache's and pains Mike. I know I have a hell of a lot more ache's and pains now. Sucks but thank goodness for meds.

I think you just defined the term.
I know two guys (different accidents) who did the skid and dump and then got ran over by the car they were trying to avoid hitting. The one guy was seriously injured and can't throw a leg over a bike anymore, but wanted to ride so after 20 years of bikeless he just bought one of those big step through type scooters and is back on two wheels. I think your better off t-boning the JO that just cut you off then you are laying the bike down. But there is no right way in an accident, just someways are better then others. Mutt |

Rubber has a better coefficient of friction against asphalt than steel. Keeping it on it's wheels is the way to go.
Thinking youre going to gracefully slide into something feet first is kinda like hoping someone'll put pillows out for ya. |

True, bikes stop better then they did years ago. Does there come a point where you need to decide is it better to go over or under? In reality I think things happen so fast, you don't decide, or if you do, there not alot of thoughts.
When I was heading for the wall. I braked hard, and then went down. Did I calculate my odds, of going over the wall, taking into the account coeffiecient of rubber on dry ashpalt, probably not. But when your looking a cement wall, I think your mind will makes its own mind up real quick. |

This reminds me of a conversation I had with someone while on vacation.
He was discussing coming into a turn to hot. "You only have two choices, crash, or push the fucker to the ground." What he was talking about is push the handle bar even harder, extra hard counter steering is at least a chance, better than crashing because you gave up. Maybe you can lay it down, I don't intend to find out if you can...
