Skills Test

Called today to schedule a Advanced Rider course and they tell me to come on over and they'd go ahead a give me the skills test. I think ...hmmmm been avoiding it long enough..so ok I'll be right there. Get there and they are finishing up the last day of a beginners course. Watched for awhile, then its my turn to take the skills test, I'm think I got this, piece of cake, been riding for years. First thing I have to do is the cone weave, foot went down twice 5 points off, then the U-turn to the right, foot went down again 5 points off. I thinking now that I just blew it. Did the rest of the test great. The instructor tells me 0-10 is passing..my score 10 on the nose....whew!!! The cones are only 12 feet apart and staggered 5 total and you start from a dead stop 12 feet from the first cone. Man I don't see how anyone riding a big bike could make it through the cones. But the end result........I PASSED !!!!!!!

Yup, it was so close to failing that I am taking the safety course anyway even though I passed and now have the endorsement. I figure its never too late to learn a new skill or refresh old ones.

Of course, you know that's a good lesson right there. Practice more and more and you will get much better.
If I was lots younger with better balance, I would be able to stop without touching the ground at all. !! Think about that one, I'm too old to learn stuff like that, I worry about getting home now without getting hit by a dam cager..

Sounds like the same test I took here in New Mexico. Same thing, been riding for years. Scored a 15 failed. Went back in 30 days scored a 5 Good Deal. Took it both times on my big Vulcan 1500....

I know what you mean. Just the other day I had a cager stop short in front of me to make a turn (no turn signal either) I swerve around him to keep from running into his rearend and he blows his horn like I was in the wrong.
