Satellite Radio
Been thinking about satellite radio for years, I drive alot, and finally got it last night.
They need to work on the antenna. They basically say run it around the cab to various spots, based on models, and then out the weather stripping and attach with a magnet. I just have mine across the dash. My brother said he did that after his antenna failed. So far, in the drive way, signal strength is the same as if on the roof. I was disapointed that it doesn't have a battery. Kid said it had one, like a GPS, you could run on battery for a bit. Which I wanted to do, to bring it inside. Kid also said they have 120 Vac chargers, I can't find one. They want to sell you home docking station for $60. Cell phones and everything else you can buy a 120 charger. WTF. I am running it on radio station, I suspect I will end up hooking it to the aux, which does annoy me a bit, cause I wanted to go from vehicle to vehicle. But I get static between songs, and doesn't really crank that loud. I got the volume up all the way, which I never do with radio or cd. Also mount sucks, it either glues to the dash or clips on a heater vent. I don't like either option. Its just sitting on the passenger seat right now. Maybe i will look at some kind of cradle mount. I did get it on sale for $50, XMOnyx. Decent price. $13 a month. I didn't realize until after I bought Sirus covers AK, and XM only Canada. Not the end of the world. I wish adding seperate radios was cheaper. Its $9 for additional radios. At $50 a radio, I would just buy one for the house, but don't want to pay that much for another subscription.

I just play internet radio off of my phone and plug it into a cassette adapter. Works great with no extra expense.

Ya that is a good way to go. I didn't care for the mpg3 player having to load songs into. I have thought about loading podcasts.
Off course there is an extra expense of having a fancy phone plan, which I don't. Of course you can do more with it. But it is still an increase in cost of living.

You don't load anything for internet radio. It streams. Plus my phone has a way of streaming my mp3 from my computer to the phone without loading anything and that works good, too.

Ya its probably a good option. This just seemed easier for me. The sat radio broadcasts to the radio without a connection, but I will probably see how hard it is to hook up to the aux.
I have held off on it, cause I want to be debt free except my mortgage, and then I want to get rid of that, and this is another bill.

So what internet radio sites do you like?
I suspect internet radio will replace sat radio, just as the smart phones are replacing GPS. The issue at the moment is signal. Contrary to what lots of people think, lots of the US doesn't have cell reception. Just in WI, I have lots of issues getting a signal.

Never been able to feel right with any of that...
Whether it's satellite or internet radio there's something that turns me off about selecting a music: type/genre/decade and having some big brother in the sky shooting me what they think that represents and I will therefore enjoy. Reminds me of online cookies and creepy pop ups that appear cause they think they got ya pigeoned holed into some such category or another.

I've had satellite for about a year. It's not bad and it's pretty much always available, even when you can't get internet on the phone. There was one day that the satellite was having problems coming through the clouds.
The playlists on a lot of the stations are pretty small. I don't often listen to the music channels because they get old quickly. There's a lot of news though and that's easier to listen to since it's always changing.
