Week from hell

Just ain't used to this shit. Since this past Monday, the temps haven't been above 20*, with the nights dipping in to the single digits. Woke up this morn to 8 inches of snow. Now y'all gotta understand Texas......we've had 10 inch snowfalls, but by noon it's 60*. We've had cold weather but no snow, only sleet and ice. Talked to a man that in 74 years had never seen such cold and snow together in Texas.

By now y'all northern folk are laughing at me. To this I say, come here during our summer when we have 60 days straight above 110*............then we'll see who laughs.

Anyhoot. The hydraulic shuttle transmission linkage froze up on my Kubota M9540, and when I tried to get it working broke something, so it won't move. Will tear it down when a warm day comes along. In meantime will move hay to feed cattle with the L3240. The dually won't start, both batteries are dead. So I pull a trailer with the Yukon to get feed. Was at the feed co-op today............they've sold 140 ton of cattle range cubes in the past 4 days. I bought enough to get me through to next Tuesday. My cows are dropping winter calves, so I'm up checking cattle during the night.

Cattle prices here in Texas are now at a 45 year high. Y'all are soon to see this price carry through to the grocery store. Some are projecting prime steaks at $20 a pound or higher by mid-summer.

There's plenty of hogs, chickens and turkeys in North Carolina. Hope the meat market doesn't price itself into a supply excess down-turn. The weather isn't much better in the southeast.

Colder than shit up here in the Northeast too! Went out to put some bird food in my feeders and had to walk out in the yard where there is no path, snow was up to above my knees, I'm 6'1", so that is kinda deep. Got a new Springer pup that is 6 months old, he loves the snow, which is good cause by the time he comes in from doing his business he's pretty tired out from dealing with the deep snow. We pay top dollar for Angus beef now, I think that it is local meat, Don't remember seeing any Angus herds out west, just White faced Herefords.

I've been to Texas during a Summer heat wave.

Right now I'm enjoying being here in the Pacific North We
st

Good old normal mild weather here now so I won't complain about the rain.

Love Springers.

Angus is good beef. Pulling good money here. Down here Herefords not so much. My herd is mainly Brangus, adapt well, live on any grass, and produce good taste. I've run standard and Tigerstripes, but prefer my females Brangus bred to Angus, mixed Charlais-Angus, and Brangus bulls. I look for good marble in the meat.........girlfriend is a chef (4 Star, 5 Diamond). Lots of folks here run Beefmasters...........personally don't care much for them.

I'm not into producing pretty cattle, I'm into producing steaks. And the plant I sell to likes my beef.

My poor sweetie. As much as I would like to laugh, I really can't. Know it must be tough for you on the ranch. Hope the calves survive. I do hafta chuckle a bit tho. Have never dealt with Texas summer temps, but did deal with 100 plus when I went to Montana. No thanks. Your snow will be long gone while Phantom and I are still dealing with it.

Been a weird week all around... Iced in Tuesday and Wednesday here in Indiana (aka the armpit of the universe). We took in my mom (she's 90) fearing a power outage. I got her back home when it passed, and levered up her garage door to get some shovels to get her back door open.

This is not snow. It's ice. My big ol' Oldsmobile is sitting on top of this shit.
