Coils…Points vs. Electronic
The reasons not to mix a points coil, (20,000 volts), and an electronic coil, (40,000 volts), are because an electronic one will burn out points prematurely and a points coil cannot generate the voltage required to jump the increased spark plug gap on an electronic system.
Points and the storage unit for built up electricity known as a condenser can only handle about 20,000 volts of juice before the condenser starts leaking electrons which will burn out the points confusing the spark plug all to hell about when it’s supposed to fire.
