Gas Tank gas Gauge etc

Ok, I finally figured out how to post pics to the forum from photo bucket. This is how I made a gas gauge for my Sporty tank that I'm using on my"INFIDEL" Kwak 650 choppa. First I drilled the holes with a 1" hole saw...

That coincided with the bungs I found at the aircraft surplus store. They are 3/8 pipe. I used these bungs with these brass 90's.

I don't know how many pics I can post on one page so I'll go to another page...

Here is where I tried to weld this bung in with my little 110 welder. I am not the most skilled welder and my little wire welder is not the best machine. The flux core makes quite a mess and it's difficult even for a good welder to make it pretty. So anyway I blew this hole then turned the welder way down and tacked by bungs in place and called my welder buddy, Rocky. He said bring him a couple 6 packs of soda anmd he'd take care of it for me.

This is what it looked like before I went to Rock's.

Next was drilling for the fuel petcocks. I'm using 1/4 galvanized pipe so I had to make sure I ground all the galvanizing off. If you do this mmake sure you grind off all the galvanize because it can't be welded over.

I got a 6" piece and cut it 2 lengths. A long one for regular gas and a super short one reserve.

So that's as far as I got on Saturday. Took my tank home and cleaned my shop. Rocky and I went to the swap meet together and I got some tank sealer and some other stuff. Today I'm going to do the sealer thing grind and bondo the welds and get my petcocks and everything done so I can put some gas in this damn thing and maybe take her for a spin. I'll post some more pics when I'm done. Hope this was good info for somebody.

what I got done today

Made a pipe support system out of a couple Sportster Head pipe clamps, some 3/8's rod, a spacer and a wingnut. Think it turned out pretty cool if I must say so myself.
Also ground the welds and molded the gas tank, did the sealer thing and painted it rattle can semi-gloss black.
Then got the running and brake light working and figured out what I needed to do to get the rest of the electrics working.

I was in the shop from about noon to 9:30 today. This is my last week home before I go back to work on the 20th so I'm trying to get as much done as I can before then. The rattle can is temporary, I'm gonna give it the full on flake treatment but that's going to have to wait until I can afford the materials. The sealer I used say's I have to wait for 74 to 96 hours before I can put it in use. If I had known that I would have got the cream stuff. Oh well.....Maybe I'll work on the jockey shifter next. Stay tuned

Today I buffed up my fittings and installed them on the tank. Finished up most the wiring. Made a permanent battery mount and got rid of some excess wiring stuff. Also installed a new light switch, horn button and throttle. Long day that don't look like I accomplished much but I'm getting close to test ride.
