How big a tire do you really need?

The size of your tire can seriously impact the handling of your bike, and can cause lots of extra work and expense to offset the engine. Fashion says "FAT", but how fat do you really need to go? Take a look at this photo below. The Sportster went from a 130 to a 180. This is all a matter of taste, of course, but we thought you should have a good comparison to start with.

Unless it's about going for looks 160's a good rear tire,at 180 there's a nod to looks but handling starts to feel a little sluggish.Didn't like the feeling of the 200 rear on my Softail whenever unexpectedly hitting a corner too hot,but it looked cool.Another neg is Wider tires are more likely to hydroplane in the rain.

Since I'm not riding custom bikes, I go with stock sizes. But I did switch from stock Dunlops to E3 on my Ultra.

Mine came with a 130 but I put on a 140, that is all that will fit. I wouldn't go over 180 even if I could.

If you waste your time a-talkin' to the people who don't listen, to the things that you are sayin', who do you think's gonna hear. And if you should die explainin' how the things that they complain about, are things they could be changin', who do you think's gonna care?

Unless there isn't much available in the stock size, I go stock. What I don't like is, putting a narrower belt on, which I would think would effect longevity.
