Cleaning guns
Been setting up a shop for cleaning guns and such. As anal as I am about somethings, I was neglecting my guns. Been using Boresnakes for about 10 years, and not all the time. Not that I shoot alot.
So bought a gun vise, jags, and brushes. I do like the Boresnakes, cause you feed from breech to bore. My pump rifle, the barrel doesn't come off easy. So good to pull the first round of crap out. So then tonight I tried the air compressor. Damn that should be the first thing you do. Maybe last too, to thin out the oil. Then I read on a gun forum to use an air dryer. No end. I have gotten away from blued guns. To me, just a pain. I have even mismatched blued with matte, or whatever its called. Future will be SS or matte, for any big purchase. Probably syn stock for long gun too.

Wood stocks are nice looking for a while but a few trips in the pickup fixes that. I've got 7 custom built rifles, 5 have Mcmillan synthetics, 1 with wood laminate and only 1 with factory wood. The McMillans are great stocks but are a little pricey.

Lots of kits come with the plastic tips for patch, that you can stick the patch through. I just don't like those. Don't care for pulling the patch
My muzzle loader has a brass jag, that is sized to the diameter, caliber. So I bought brass jags for my rifles and pistols, I like them better. Haven't been able to find any for shotguns, locally. Will probably end up ordering from Midwest.

I just have a toolbox with my cleaning stuff in it, and a tv tray
But my guns are clean!

Marlin 60, has a lot of pieces. It was filthy. Surprised it worked good.

I got it about 10 years ago from my Grandpa. It wasn't be used. I can't remember for sure, but I think I had a couple jams. All I did was spray lube in there. It wasn't really dirty.
This time, it looked like it had sawdust in it. All have been doing is cleaning the barrel, once in awhile, and spraying it down. Hopefully it works when I get it all back together. I also took apart the semi auto 22 pistol. Amazing the difference. The pistol is very simple, the rifle has alot more to it.

Take a look at some of the Ultrasonic gun cleaners. I've always wanted one. You can clean your gun without even taking it apart.

Got a set of Grace brass punches.$41 shipped from Midway. I like Midway they are quick and good website. Not sure how prices compare
Never used any others, or even these ones yet, so not endorsing this brand. But they are made in America. I am going to strip my rifles. One is from 1975 and other 1980, probably never been done. I've done Karens Browning, more expensive then mine, with steal one, but figured I should do it right. Going to get a brass hammer or something little. My 20oz Estig is my favorite though.
