WI Concealed Carry
With the political change in the state, concealed carry is being discussed in WI again. Last two times Doyle vetoed it, and when they tried to over turn the veto, couple guys reversed there stance based on party lines.
When they tried it last time it was 10 hours of training. Now they are trying to pass it no training or background check. Just make it legal for WI residents to carry a gun. I have no problem with that. I am against training. Its just restrictive. A person shouldn't have to take a vacation day or wait for an opening in a class. Plus I think everyone knows, you pull the trigger, its going off. The reckless people will be reckless no matter what, and they people who want to learn will seek out training. When I lived in Indiana, you paid $20 bucks, got fingerprinted and wait two weeks. That was it. I am ok with background checks, but I don't see the point. You need one to get the gun in the first place. Plus I am strong believer that people will just carry illegally anyways. They are talking about then offering a permit system, so it will honored in other states and would be able to to carry near schools. Some people go think of the children, why would you carry near schools? But what people don't realize, its not that you want to carry at a school, its that they are all over, and you just pass them and that person would be defenseless to and from. The previous bill would have passed pretty easy with the political change, I am not sure if the permitless one will. But I don't see why I need a permit to defend my family.

I think the deterrent effect is the major advantage of concealed carry. El stops are hotbeds of purse snatchers and pickpockets. They couldn't possibly keep their eye on everyone and would start thinking twice if concealed carry passed.
It missed in ILL. Enough votes to pass but not enough to overturn the veto.

I think its going to pass in WI, in some form.
Some people worry about repeal, when parties change hand. But in MI, the Dem gov said she was going to repeal it when passed, but didn't. Probably like any law, once its passed its hard to get rid of.

4 years ago I got the packet from FL, to get a non resident carry permit, but never sent it in. UT and FL offer non resident permits, that are honored in lots of states.

It'll pass but personally I'm torn about the training issue. I understand the whole "liberty" and "shall not infringe" argument but I'm skeptical as to whether people really understand the legal parameters from which they can use their weapon. It's more than just pull the trigger and boom, as you stated. I don't think the training is as much about how to use the weapon as WHEN to use it. There are many grey areas surrounding this topic and without training or education on when and how it's legal to use the weapon, many people will be clueless.

I agree on the education, to know when you can use it. I just don't like the idea of a 10 hour class. You have to take time off work, it costs money. It really hurts the poor. Plus a waiting list.
I think a simple paragraph you read and sign would be good. I am against a long write up, cause people don't read it. I think awareness ads on TV and radio, would be enough. Its not a hard concept, you can only use it when your life is in danger.

IN has no training, and as far as I know, it really isn't an issue. I think some states waive it if you have hunter safety or military training, neither prepare for the legal aspect of it.
I would be ok with training if it was quick, cheap, and offered regularly. A town hall type meeting once a month. Really takes 5 minutes, to stress the point you can only defend yourself, and not defend your property.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. I like the idea of the signature of understanding but then permits would have to be issued to indicate that you've signed off. I don't think it should cost any money or require a lengthy class either. It's kinda funny to hear all the anti-gun people ramp up the scare tactics. All they need to do is look out to Vermont. We just got back from there and everyone we met was beyond nice. They have true "constitutional carry" out there and also one of the lowest rates of crime in the nation. Granted, it's mostly educated white folk that live there and they don't have cities like Milwaukee, but it still demonstrates that people aren't going to just turn into vigilantes the moment the law is passed.

I don't know how anyone can even say stuff like the wild west, so many states have concealed carry already. WI is one of the last.
